THE CERTIFICATE COURSE

(Certificate in Personal and Professional Development (CPPD) in Clinical Hypnosis)

The aim of this eight day intensive course is to provide a sound introduction to hypnosis, enabling those who attend to obtain a foundation of knowledge as an aid to the practice of hypnotherapy. The course is part time and will meet on four intermittent weekends. The course culminates in a one-day exam - Part One - based on the first five modules of the LCCH syllabus and successful candidates will be awarded their Part One Certificate.

Additional material such as lectures on the nervous, digestive and cardiovascular systems, psychological theories and ethics will be presented by our medical personnel. Whilst this course does not ask participants to delve too deeply into diagnostic routines, emphasis is given to recognition of conditions in which hypnotherapy may be contra-indicated. However, students are expected to acquire skills which are directly relevant to improving the quality of life for themselves and those around them.

Eligibility

As a practical programme, the certificate course will be especially useful for people engaged in the 'caring professions'. Health-care professionals, teachers, counsellors, social workers can usefully explore the clinical applications of hypnosis within the spectrum of work they already do. The minimum age is 18 years.

Although a life science or psychology qualification may appear to give an edge for this course, we feel that this area is only a small part of the learning curve for becoming competent in hypnotherapy. Therefore the course is open to those with a genuine interest in clinical hypnosis, even if they do not have any accredited prior learning (APL). However, so that suitability may be assessed, students will be required to attend an interview with a college officer before being accepted. In addition, candidates must furnish the LCCH with two references, the name and address of their General Practitioner and their National Insurance number.

On successful completion of the Certificate Course and upon passing the Part One examination, students are entitled to apply for a place on the Diploma Course. No student may present themselves for the Part One examination without attending three supervisory sessions during the Certificate Course.
